Family Fun
Explore together. That’s what we hope you’ll do at Krannert Center. The arts are about investigating new ways of thinking, new sounds, new ways of being. Through hearing music that holds you still in your seat, watching characters who look familiar or wondrous, imagining yourself behind the scenes, and talking about everything you witnessed afterward, you can find out more about yourself, your loved ones, your community, and your place in the world.
And coming to the Center doesn’t mean that you have to spend a lot of time or a lot of money. Traffic Jam performances—held at 5pm—are free and easy ways to sample a little music before you head home for the evening. Try taking in a Prelude, which is an informal, beginning-level introduction to classical music. These free talks let you find out a little more about an art form with no commitment. Or check out the Kids’ Menu at Intermezzo for a quick snack or a light meal before a performance. And since all student and youth tickets to nearly every event are just $15 or less, it’s even easier to make plans to attend as many shows as you can.
In addition to the regular family-friendly events we sponsor throughout the season—like TPO’s Kindur and the stunning ID from Cirque Éloize—the Youth Series presents high-caliber shows for elementary, middle, junior, and high school classes and home schoolers during the day. Background about the show, fun activities, and thoughtful projects are provided before each performance as a way to make these experiences fit directly into work already underway in the classroom.
For more Krannert experiences geared to students, head to Student Space (and adults will find more information in the Parents and Educators section).
This season, try these family events:
Opening Night Party
Bayanihan Philippine National Dance Company
The Baseball Music Project
The Nutcracker
Russian National Ballet Theatre
Cirque Éloize: ID
TPO Virtual Playground
Kindur: The Adventurous Journey of Two Icelandic Sheep
